Getting Started

Follow these simple steps to set up Klakk:

Download & Install

Download and install Klakk from the Mac App Store.

Launch Klakk

Open Klakk from Applications. The app will appear in your menu bar.

Grant Permissions

Follow the on-screen guide to grant Input Monitoring in System Settings.

Select your favorite sound pack and start typing. That's it!

Common Questions

Why does Klakk need Input Monitoring?

Klakk uses macOS Input Monitoring so it can react to key timing while other apps are active. It does not record, save, or upload typed text or individual key content. Firebase Analytics, StoreKit, update checks, and support links are separate network activity.

How do I grant Input Monitoring to Klakk?

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring, verify Klakk, enable it, then quit and reopen Klakk. Input Monitoring is separate from Accessibility. On a managed Mac, follow your organization's policy.

Which keyboards work with Klakk?

Klakk can be tested with built-in, USB, and Bluetooth keyboards when macOS recognizes their input events. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every layout, special key, hub, KVM, or remapping utility, so test your actual setup.

Will this typing sounds app slow down my Mac?

Performance depends on the Mac, audio output, and other running apps. Compare Klakk on and off in your normal workflow and use Activity Monitor if you need to inspect CPU or memory use.

Can I import custom mechanical keyboard sounds?

The current public version does not import custom sound packs. Choose from the 14 bundled sound packs and verify the current set in the app or Mac App Store listing.

Troubleshooting

Klakk is running but no sound plays

  1. 1. Confirm Klakk is running and playback is enabled from the menu bar
  2. 2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and check Klakk; this is not Accessibility
  3. 3. Confirm the speaker or headphones you are listening to are selected as the current macOS system output
  4. 4. Check both the Klakk volume and the macOS output volume, then try another bundled sound
  5. 5. After changing permission or output, quit Klakk completely and reopen it

Input Monitoring issues

  1. 1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring
  2. 2. Find Klakk in the list and toggle it ON
  3. 3. If Klakk is already enabled, toggle it OFF then ON again
  4. 4. Restart Klakk after making changes

High CPU usage

  1. 1. Close and reopen Klakk to clear any temporary issues
  2. 2. Check for updates - newer versions often have performance improvements
  3. 3. If issue persists, contact support with your macOS version

Klakk can automatically check for updates in the background (you can disable this in Preferences).

Update availability and compatibility can change; verify them on the target Mac before updating macOS.
