Data Collection
Klakk processes keyboard events locally to play sounds. The app does not store typed text or upload raw keystrokes. The website and direct-download edition send usage, purchase and licensing data as described below.
Required Permissions
Input Monitoring lets Klakk receive keyboard events across applications, including key-down, key-up and modifier-key events. Klakk uses physical key codes to choose sounds and recognize its shortcut locally. This permission is broader than a signal that a key was pressed. You can revoke it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring.
Local Data Storage
Sound, volume, output, login and trial preferences are stored on your Mac. The direct-download edition also saves an installation identifier, a private token, license state and failed usage requests locally. Removing the app does not automatically remove these files or server records.
Payment Information
Apple handles App Store payments and Creem handles direct purchases; Klakk does not receive card details. Direct license verification stores a random installation ID, a hashed token, order and customer IDs, and license status in Cloudflare D1. The token is saved in a file in Application Support with permissions limited to your macOS account.
Creem handles contact and billing information needed for direct purchases, receipts and tax. If you contact support, we receive your message and contact details. These are separate from usage analytics.
Analytics and Data Collection
The Mac website edition uses the Firebase Analytics SDK for app events, including launches, settings and sound selections, permissions, typing activity, trial and purchase actions. Typing activity records that the app was used, rather than the characters typed. Shortcut configuration can be included as a setting. Google also receives app-instance identifiers and device or system information.
The website uses Google Analytics for page views, link and download clicks, page language and campaign labels. Its browser tag uses cookies or similar browser identifiers. Page and referrer URLs omit query strings; permitted campaign labels are sent separately. A download click is not confirmation that a file finished downloading or the app was installed.
Raw keyboard events, typed text, card details, license keys and private installation tokens are not sent to Google Analytics. The direct-edition Cloudflare service receives usage milestones, version, event and first-launch times, and identifiers needed to authenticate an installation. It sends verified purchase or refund events with order ID, amount and currency to Google. Failed usage requests are queued locally for retry.
Online services receive connection information such as IP addresses when handling requests. Google Analytics uses IP information for approximate location and service operations; handling depends on the region and linked-service settings. Klakk does not request GPS location.
As checked on 9 October 2026, this Google Analytics property retains event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months. New user activity resets the user retention period. These settings do not determine the retention of most standard aggregate reports or Cloudflare license and order records. For access, deletion or retention questions, contact [email protected].
Third-Party Services
Apple processes App Store payments; Creem processes direct purchases and licenses; Cloudflare hosts the website, license service and records; Google provides website and app analytics. Their own privacy policies also apply to their processing.
Data Security
The official Mac direct-download app is Developer ID signed and Apple notarized. Online requests use HTTPS, and the server stores a hash of the private installation token. Signing and notarization do not mean that an app has no network communication or collects no usage data.
Your Rights
For access or deletion requests about direct license records and analytics data, contact [email protected]. Uninstalling the app removes neither Cloudflare license records nor analytics already received by Google.
