Choose an animated typing companion if you want a character reacting on your screen. Choose a keyboard sound app if you want audio following your keystrokes. If you want both, confirm that the product includes both: a moving paw, a trailer’s soundtrack or a paid costume does not establish a typing-sound feature. Klakk supplies keyboard audio, without a desktop pet or collectible hats.
I’m Levin, Klakk’s developer. I prepared this comparison with AI assistance and checked the linked public product information on October 12, 2026. We have not run these companion apps together, tested every input device or verified their reward systems and performance claims.
A visible reaction can leave an audio expectation unmet
In a Bongo Cat Steam discussion, a user asked whether typing was meant to produce sound. Another described a cat responding on a second screen, with headphones selected in the volume mixer, while still wanting to hear bongo taps. The original thread dates to September 2025 and includes later replies in 2026.
That shows one concrete expectation: the animation and its sound need to be checked separately. It does not prove that the current game is broken, that every version lacks audio or that selecting another output device will add an unprovided feature.
| What you want | Check before choosing |
|---|---|
| A character that reacts while you type | Where it appears, which inputs trigger it and how to hide it |
| Levels, hats or other rewards | What the base app includes and which items cost extra |
| Added audio with your keystrokes | Actual sound preview, installed playback and stop controls |
| A companion with audio in one purchase | Both feature entitlements, platform and trial conditions |
These are preference choices. A level, streak or key count does not establish better concentration, typing accuracy or work completed.
Bongo Cat: a free companion game with optional purchases
The current Bongo Cat Steam listing describes a cat tapping the taskbar as you type and click, with points and hats to collect. The base game is Free to Play; the page separately offers paid DLC and in-game items. Do not treat a cosmetic purchase as a keyboard sound-pack purchase.
The store currently lists 64-bit Windows 10/11 and macOS 11 or later, with Intel or Apple silicon in its Mac requirements. It also lists broadband internet. Those are the game’s published requirements; they do not establish offline reward behavior or the architecture of every distributed file.
Its feature description concerns the companion and customization. Historical community replies cannot settle the current typing-audio behavior. If sound is essential, check current settings and release information before buying extras; the free base game lets you evaluate the character separately.
Background activity is another purchase condition
A companion can be pleasant to keep on screen while its platform records a kind of activity you did not intend to emphasize. Decide whether you want the character, its progression and the platform activity together before spending on extras.
A Japanese-language Bongo Cat review from October 3, 2026 describes liking the cat but uninstalling because the writer worried that accumulated Steam playtime would put it at the top of their annual Steam Replay. The review does not report that the annual result had already happened. Its app version and operating system are unknown. It is one person’s choice, rather than evidence of an English-speaking market or a Klakk customer’s experience.
| Record you care about | What it describes |
|---|---|
| The companion’s points or rewards | That product’s progression rules |
| Platform playtime and achievements | Activity associated with the game on the platform |
| Keystrokes, words or practice accuracy | A separate measurement with its own counting rules |
| What friends can see | Visibility and sharing controls |
Valve’s official December 2024 Steam Replay announcement describes games played, achievements, streaks and monthly playtime. Those are gaming-activity measures. They do not grade the text you meant to write or establish how many hours you typed accurately. Our typing-statistics comparison separates input counts, document size and practice results.
We have not viewed this reviewer’s Replay or checked a personal Steam account. The current public Replay route requires sign-in, and the 2024 announcement does not settle the 2026 reporting window or a particular account’s rankings. Use Steam’s current annual information for those conditions; a prediction in a review is not an observed annual result.
Hiding activity is different from stopping its record
Steam’s Private Games explanation describes hiding a specific game’s ownership, in-game status, playtime and activity from other users. It distinguishes that from hiding a game in your own Library as an organizational choice.
That visibility explanation is not evidence that recording stops, earlier history is erased or a title is guaranteed to be excluded from an annual Replay. We have not changed account settings to test those effects. Check the exact outcome you need rather than treating “hidden” and “no activity recorded” as the same promise.
Choose the extra layer you want to keep
If the cat and its rewards are the attraction, evaluate those conditions in the free base before adding costumes or other purchases. If you want the typing audio, compare that separate entitlement and its data explanation. A platform’s recorded hours should not decide which recording you enjoy.
Klakk’s website licenses cover its fourteen included mechanical packs, rather than a Steam game, companion or achievement system. Its direct distribution is not a promise of zero communication: usage analytics and licensing requests still occur, with settings analytics also present on Mac. The platform activity of another product and Klakk’s own data handling need separate checks.
The existing sound preview lets you judge the included recordings. If a pack appeals to you, use the website edition’s three-day trial from first launch to decide whether its audio is the layer you want alongside your usual work. We have not tested a combined companion-and-Klakk session or established that every Steam-distributed utility needs its client running in the same way.
TapNoise: a Mac companion bundled with typing audio
TapNoise’s current homepage describes Tappy, a desktop keycap character that reacts to typing, gains levels and unlocks hats. It includes 20 keyboard sounds and a browser preview. This is a bundle of a companion and sound features, rather than a cosmetic purchase for Bongo Cat.
Its current download page lists 0.2.5, dated October 11, 2026, for macOS 14+ on Apple silicon and Intel. It describes Input Monitoring for key detection and optional Accessibility for additional controls. Some motion and lid features need specified MacBook sensors; general Mac support does not promise those features on every Mac.
The license terms list regular one-time prices of US$9.99 Solo for one Mac and US$14.99 Duo for two Macs, before tax. The current launch offers are limited: US$4.99/US$7.99 for the first tier, followed by US$6.99/US$10.99, with the regular prices applying when the stated conditions end. Confirm the actual checkout offer rather than assuming a temporary price is permanent. Its refund policy describes requests within 14 days of purchase.
Confirm the installed-trial offer
At this check, TapNoise’s homepage FAQ and download page say a license key is needed from first launch. Its maker’s Product Hunt update separately announces a free three-day trial with no key or card. These public descriptions do not currently agree. We have not downloaded or activated the app to resolve which offer the available build provides.
If a pre-purchase app trial matters to you, confirm the offer for the build you will download. The browser’s audio preview lets you hear sounds; it cannot demonstrate the installed character, input permissions or trial activation. A refund after buying is also a different condition from trying the app before payment.
The publisher’s privacy policy describes local key-position and timing processing for sound, the companion and counts, with license and update communication. Treat that as its published data-handling explanation, rather than our independent network audit.
A reward sound can depend on your typing rhythm
If you want an extra sound when you settle into a fast, steady rhythm, choose the trigger as well as the recording. Ordinary key clicks, a climbing chime and a character earning points can be different features in the same app category.
A September 6, 2023 comment in a Klack discussion expressed interest in a special sound while typing fast. The buying distinction is the condition that produces it. A larger sound catalog alone does not add a rhythm-based trigger.
| Reaction you want | Feature to establish |
|---|---|
| A sound after each ordinary press | Key-event playback with the sounds you prefer |
| An additional cue for a fast, steady sequence | A documented cadence condition and its controls |
| A regular pulse continuing through pauses | A separately timed metronome |
| Different feedback for correct and incorrect text | A practice tool’s prompt, scorer and sound settings |
Clacky’s official changelog describes Typing combos in version 1.4, dated October 2, 2026. When enabled, its publisher says a fast, steady rhythm produces a soft chime with climbing notes. That is an additional sound triggered by an input pattern. It is a different feature from advancing a song’s next note with any key or comparing entered characters with a practice prompt.
The current official offer describes keyboard sounds for macOS 13+, requiring Input Monitoring. It offers a seven-day trial from first launch, once per Mac, without an email address or card. The site also advertises one-time, monthly and annual purchase options with offer conditions; confirm the selected plan before paying. These are published terms, rather than our trial or purchase test.
If that chime is essential, check it in the edition you intend to keep. Decide whether you can stop the extra cue independently and whether its behavior when you pause and resume is the experience you want. We have not verified the current binary, its speed threshold, how the sequence resets or its behavior with an IME. A browser sound sample cannot demonstrate those installed trigger conditions.
A cadence cue also does not establish accurate text or a finished task. Compare input audio and a metronome for an independent beat, or sounds, statistics and practice feedback for text scoring.
Klakk’s current website editions provide their fourteen included mechanical packs without a rhythm-triggered bonus chime or combo progression. If ordinary input audio is what you want, hear the fourteen packs and use the website trial to choose the recording you enjoy. Confirm an extra reward mechanism separately when that is part of your buying requirement.
Klakk: choose the sound without a companion system
Klakk’s current website Mac 1.4.1/build 23 and Windows 1.4.1 editions include 14 mechanical sound packs. There is no desktop character, hat collection, experience-point progression or bongo-instrument preset.
If the sound is the part you want, listen to all 14 packs. The preview responds to input within that page. Use the desktop trial to judge the included sound while typing in the apps you normally use. A browser preview is not a test of a companion-and-sound combination.
The website editions have a three-day trial from first launch. Continued use costs US$4.49 once per platform, plus applicable tax. Mac supports macOS 14+ on Apple silicon and Intel; Windows supports Windows 10/11 with native x64 and ARM64 builds, and its installer is unsigned. Website Mac, Windows and App Store licenses are separate. Choose your website edition.
You can evaluate a separate companion and Klakk for their separate jobs, but we have not tested their joint operation or synchronization. Stop one sound source during your comparison so you can identify which app you hear. Klakk’s pause controls stop its added audio without stopping a separate game’s animation or progression.
Check whether you enjoy the extra layer
Start by deciding what you want to notice: sound, a character or rewards. Try the available free base, preview or installed trial before adding paid extras. Check whether the companion can be hidden during work you do not want it to accompany, and whether audio can be paused separately.
Do not compare two products only by their number of sounds or hats. You may prefer a few sounds you enjoy, a visual companion that stays quiet, or a bundle. Those are personal preferences, rather than a ranking we measured.
For a video tutorial, a character also serves a different purpose from showing readable shortcut labels. Our keypress display and audio guide explains that separate task. A pet reaction does not necessarily tell a viewer which command you used.
Klakk processes input events and key codes locally without uploading typed text or raw keystrokes. Usage analytics and licensing communication still occurs; Mac also has settings analytics. See the Mac privacy policy or Windows privacy policy for the edition you use. A companion or game has its own data and network conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Does a typing companion always play sounds?
No. Animation, sound and reward features need separate confirmation. A trailer soundtrack or a character reacting to keys does not establish the current app’s typing-audio behavior.
Does buying a Bongo Cat costume give me keyboard sound packs?
Do not assume that. The current store separates its free companion game from paid DLC and in-game items. Check the individual purchase description for its actual contents.
Does Klakk have a desktop pet or reward system?
The current website editions provide 14 included mechanical keyboard sound packs without a desktop character, hats or experience-point progression.
Can a browser preview show how an installed companion behaves?
A browser preview can demonstrate its page’s audio or visuals. Installed input detection, permissions, other-app behavior and companion controls require evaluation in the actual app.
