If you want a different typing level for headphones and speakers, look for settings tied to those audio outputs. A keyboard app remembering its last volume is a different feature. Klakk’s current website Mac edition has one playback-volume setting and an output selector, without supported per-output volume profiles.

I’m Levin, Klakk’s developer. I prepared this buying comparison with AI assistance and checked the linked offers and current website Mac controls on October 13, 2026. We have not measured listening levels or tested every output transition. The published alternative below is a capability to evaluate, rather than our verification of automatic recall.

The choice can be about remembering a level

A US App Store review of Loud Typer, displayed with the date September 13, 2023, wanted volume settings automatically stored for the device being used. The reviewer described adjusting between headphones and speakers, with easier menu-bar volume control as an alternative.

That is one historical preference about another product. The review does not identify its app version or operating system, and we have not established whether Loud Typer later fulfilled it. It illustrates a useful purchase requirement without proving that every listener needs the same feature.

Ask what you want the app to remember. Keeping your latest level, restoring a named setup when you select it and automatically choosing a stored level for an audio output are separate behaviors.

Use a different typing level for each audio outputPer-output app levels and their recall behavior

A keyboard-versus-mouse volume control concerns two input categories. It does not establish separate levels for speakers and headphones. Likewise, one sound pack per profile does not show that its volume follows the connected output.

Klakk supplies one current level, with manual controls

The website Mac edition’s Settings → Audio → Volume controls Klakk’s own playback. Output Device selects its destination. Its supported interface does not give you separate saved typing-volume entries for each output.

Klakk also has a Volume submenu with three levels in its menu-bar controls. That can make a manual change convenient if you do not need automatic per-output recall. Those selections change the current playback level; they are not a collection of headphone and speaker presets.

If choosing a pack and occasionally adjusting its level is enough, you may already have the controls you want. If your essential requirement is “restore my typing level whenever this output returns,” Klakk’s current fourteen-pack offer does not provide that feature. Its trial will not add it.

Background Mode is a separate running-app adjustment. It does not maintain your own set of levels for different headphones or speakers. Compare playback conditions separately if you also want sound to stop when headphones are absent.

A published per-output option to evaluate

Mechey’s developer documentation explicitly describes per-output-device volume and advises setting headphones and speakers separately. That is a more relevant published capability for this requirement than the number of sound packs.

The reviewed documentation does not fully specify automatic recall after switching away and back, persistence after restarting, or every supported USB, Bluetooth or virtual output. Confirm those transitions with the publisher and during an available evaluation. A per-output feature description is not our successful test of your intended behavior.

Mechey is an extension inside Droppy. The current license documentation advertises $9.99 once, regional checkout pricing, two Macs and a three-day trial. Droppy’s homepage says its extensions are included and requires macOS 14+. “Free extension” should therefore not be read as an unrestricted standalone keyboard app without the host purchase.

The permissions documentation identifies Input Monitoring for Mechey and other permissions for the host’s separate capabilities. Compare the host and extension requirements with the features you plan to use. This article does not infer a permission-free setup, Windows support or a benchmark from that offer.

A saved percentage is not a fixed listening level

Two devices can sound different at a saved percentage. The recording, app gain, system or device controls and physical output all affect what you hear. A remembered value can save an adjustment; it does not promise equally loud sound at your ears.

Apple’s Mac output guidance describes selecting an output and adjusting its volume. Those controls affect that output’s audio. They should not be confused with remembering just the keyboard app’s level while leaving music and other playback at their own settings.

Our app-volume comparison explains those layers. If you want one choice to restore several settings manually, compare named saved setups instead. Neither purchase necessarily supplies automatic output-specific recall.

During an available evaluation, start at a comfortable low level. Compare each output, switch away and back, and reopen the app. Check the selected device and recalled app value as well as what you hear. A suitable headphone level is not a default recommendation for speakers.

Choose the sound first if manual volume fits

You can hear Klakk’s fourteen included mechanical packs before installing. The browser preview helps you choose recordings; it does not establish desktop output recall or a listening-level measurement. The preview comparison explains its limited file and gain data.

The current website Mac 1.4.1/build 23, internal revision 2026-10-11.1, supports macOS 14+ on Apple silicon and Intel. Its trial starts at first launch and lasts three days. Continued Mac use is US$4.49 once plus applicable tax, with all fourteen packs included. Try the Mac edition if you enjoy those recordings and its manual controls match your requirement.

Website Mac, Windows and App Store purchases are separate. The Windows 1.4.1 offer supports Windows 10/11 on native x64 and ARM64 with an unsigned installer; the Mac alternatives here do not establish equivalent Windows per-output recall. Continued website use costs US$4.49 per platform plus applicable tax.

Both website editions process input locally without uploading typed text or raw key events. Usage analytics and licensing communication occurs; Mac also has settings telemetry and needs Input Monitoring. Read the Mac or Windows policy for your edition.

Buy the control you need as well as the sound you enjoy. Manual adjustment may be enough. If automatic output-specific recall is indispensable, confirm it explicitly before paying for another catalog.

Frequently asked questions

Does Klakk remember a different playback volume for every audio output?

Its current website Mac interface has one playback-volume setting and an output selector, without supported per-output volume profiles. Manual changes adjust the current level.

Is a named saved setup the same as automatic per-output recall?

No. A profile you select manually can restore documented settings without automatically choosing a level when the audio output changes. Confirm both the stored fields and the trigger.

Does Mechey’s per-output feature prove automatic recall after every reconnection?

No. Its current documentation publishes per-output-device volume but does not fully specify every return, restart or device transition. We have not tested those transitions.

Will the same saved percentage be equally loud on headphones and speakers?

No fixed listening level is established by a percentage alone. The recording, gain stages, output controls and device affect what you hear.
