Quick answer

Check Windows S mode and Microsoft Store app settings before installing keyboard sounds. Understand Klakk's EXE installer and the browser preview option.

Keyboard Sound App for Windows — Klakk

Play mechanical keyboard sounds as you type in Windows apps. 14 sound packs, native ARM64 and x64 support, and a 3-day free trial.

Klakk’s website Windows 1.4.1 download is an EXE installer from outside Microsoft Store. It cannot be installed while Windows remains in S mode, which permits compatible Microsoft Store apps. If you want to keep S mode, use the browser sound preview to listen on that page, or evaluate an app available through Microsoft Store.

I’m Levin, Klakk’s developer, and used AI to help prepare this guide. The distribution details and Microsoft instructions were checked on October 11, 2026. This explains the installation requirement; it does not claim that we installed Klakk on an S-mode device or tested every Windows policy configuration.

S mode and an app-source warning are different

The message “The app you’re trying to install isn’t a Microsoft-verified app” does not, by itself, identify the exact restriction. Windows also has a separate app recommendation setting that can restrict installs to Microsoft Store.

App-source preferences restrict other downloadsReview Choose where to get apps in Windows settings.
A publisher or reputation warning appearsCheck the exact warning and the installer details separately.

On Windows 11, Microsoft’s app recommendation controls are under Settings → Apps → Advanced app settings. On Windows 10, the corresponding location is Settings → Apps → Apps & features. The choices can allow outside apps, show a recommendation or warning, or restrict installs to Microsoft Store. Reviewing that preference does not itself switch Windows out of S mode. See Microsoft’s app recommendation guide.

Check the edition and mode shown in Windows settings before making a change. Microsoft’s S-mode FAQ explains the distinction and links the activation settings. Windows 11 S mode is available in the Home edition. For a work or school device with managed restrictions, the administrator determines whether outside apps are permitted.

What this means for Klakk’s download

The official Klakk 1.4.1 release supplies Windows EXE installers, including native x64 and ARM64 options. The main website installer selects the appropriate build for a supported PC. This distribution format does not become a Microsoft Store installation when downloaded through a browser, GitHub mirror or package manager.

The website Windows edition supports Windows 10 and 11, subject to the device allowing this type of desktop app. That platform requirement does not override S mode or an organization’s installation rules. Successfully downloading the file also does not prove that the operating system will allow it to run.

The current Windows installer is unsigned. Its file hash helps check that the file matches the published asset; it is not a publisher signature or Store approval. The Windows product page gives the current signature and verification details. An app-source restriction and a signature warning need different checks, so use the actual message rather than treating every blocked install as the same problem.

The Mac App Store option on Klakk’s website is for Macs. It is not a Microsoft Store version or an alternative Windows installer. See the download page for the separate platform and channel choices.

Decide whether you want to keep S mode

You can keep S mode and listen to Klakk’s existing browser preview. That preview runs within its webpage; it does not install background keyboard sounds into your other Windows applications. If you need sounds across applications while retaining S mode, check a Microsoft Store product’s actual compatibility and features before buying it.

Microsoft also provides an official Switch out of S mode process. It has no charge, but the change is one-way: you cannot turn S mode back on through that process. It is a separate decision from buying Klakk or upgrading Windows to Pro. Read Microsoft’s switching guide before deciding whether the change suits your device.

If you choose to switch, use that official Store flow and wait for its confirmation before attempting the desktop installation.

If the switching page shows an error

Treat that as a Windows or Microsoft Store switching problem, rather than evidence that Klakk’s audio is broken. In a January 2026 Microsoft Q&A question, the author could reach the Store page but reported a switching error. That dated report does not establish a current service outage or a fix that applies to every device.

Record the exact error and the Windows edition, and use Microsoft’s support or your device administrator if the official flow does not complete. Repeatedly downloading Klakk will not change the mode. After Windows allows the installation, the Windows setup guide covers the app’s output device, volume, included packs and first sound.

Klakk Windows 1.4.1 includes 14 packs and a three-day trial starting at first launch. Continued use costs US$4.49 once plus applicable tax. Windows, website Mac and Mac App Store licenses are separate. Typed text and raw key events are not uploaded, but usage and licensing communication still occurs; read the Windows privacy policy for the current edition.
